Coal wagons
Australian Rollforming Manufacturers produce a number of critical components that are used in the construction of rail coal wagons.
Manufactured in Australian Rollforming Manufacturers’ factory in Dandenong, Australia, these sections are comprised of side sills, cant rails, stiffeners, hopper supports, transverse stiffeners and chute stiffeners.
With component lengths ranging up to 12.6 metres for the side sills and 13.4 metres for the cant rails, straightness and consistency of shape are critical manufacturing criteria.
Roll formed from 3.5mm and 5.0mm thick 5CR12 grade stainless steel, these components are produced to exacting tolerances, requiring a very high degree of specialised technical expertise and experience.
Manufactured from specialised, state-of-the-art equipment, utilising the latest technology, Australian Rollforming Manufacturers components are found in coal wagons used by both QR National and Pacific National – the two major coal rail haulage operators in Australia.
With each fully laden wagon grossing 70 tonnes or 120 tonnes (depending on configuration), and with more than 250 million tonnes of coal hauled by rail in Australia each year, the integrity of each coal wagon component is critical to ensuring the safe, speedy and efficient transportation of the coal, with minimal maintenance of the rolling stock.
Australian Rollforming Manufacturers are custom metal rollforming specialists, with the capability to rollform an almost infinite number of profiles in a wide range of metals.
